When cloud is the right choice — and when it is not
Choose cloud when
- You do not have someone whose job includes keeping a server patched.
- You want to be running this week rather than after a procurement cycle.
- Your headcount changes often and per-user billing matches how you grow.
- Nobody in the contract chain has asked where the data physically sits.
Choose self-hosted when
- A client contract or an internal policy requires the data to stay on your infrastructure.
- You would rather not name a sub-processor in your own privacy notice.
- Your headcount is large enough that a flat annual licence costs less than per-user billing.
- The network is restricted, air-gapped or behind a corporate proxy that will not allow it.
Frequently asked questions about the cloud
Where is the cloud data hosted?
In an India region, encrypted at rest, with daily backups. If your requirement is a specific region or country, that is what the private cloud option exists for.
How quickly can we start?
Minutes. Create the company, import the team from a CSV, set shifts and leave types, and share the portal link. Most teams are marking attendance the same day.
What is the minimum number of users?
10 users on any cloud plan. Below that a spreadsheet is genuinely cheaper and we would rather say so.
Can we move from cloud to self-hosted later?
Yes. Your data exports in full and imports into a self-hosted installation, and the desktop app is simply repointed at your own server URL. The migration is a scheduled task rather than a rebuild.
What happens to our data if we cancel?
You can export everything before the account closes, and the data is deleted on the schedule set out on the data retention page. Nothing is retained to make leaving harder.
